Trump hints at SEC chairmanship via 'recess appointment' to bypass Senate scrutiny

US President-elect Donald Trump hinted that he will bypass the Senate's appointment confirmation process to appoint members of his government, including replacing Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler. In a post on X on November 10th, Trump said that only he has the right to choose which US senator will serve as the majority leader of the Senate from January 2025, when the new Congress is sworn in. He hopes that potential majority leaders will agree to appointments during the recess to bypass the confirmation process and allow people to serve in important positions "immediately," rather than going through questioning and scrutiny by lawmakers.
