On September 9, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning hosted a regular press conference. A reporter from AFP asked about a joint statement released by three US agencies, including the National Security Agency, which accused six Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) companies of unauthorized distillation of American models to extract proprietary knowledge, claiming this action would steal the US AI strategy. Mao Ning responded that she had not seen the specific report, but emphasized that the development of AI in China is a result of high-level technological self-reliance and is also attributed to China's commitment to the principles of joint consultation, co-construction, sharing, and open cooperation. She stated, 'We believe all parties should enhance cooperation to promote the open, inclusive, beneficial, and ethical development of AI for the welfare of all humanity. We hope the US side will earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries and refrain from making false accusations and defamation against China. Both China and the US are major powers in AI and should strengthen cooperation.' (Beijing Daily)
