On September 9, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning hosted a regular press conference. A reporter from AFP asked about a joint statement released by three U.S. agencies, including the National Security Agency, which accused six Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) companies of unauthorized distillation of American models to extract proprietary knowledge, claiming this would steal the U.S. AI strategy. Mao Ning responded that she had not seen the specific report, but emphasized that the development of AI in China is a result of high-level technological self-reliance and is also due to China's commitment to the principles of consultation, joint construction, sharing, and open cooperation. She stated, 'We believe that all parties should strengthen cooperation to promote the open, inclusive, and beneficial development of AI for the welfare of all humanity. We hope the U.S. side can earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries and refrain from making false accusations and smear campaigns against China. Both China and the U.S. are major AI powers and should enhance cooperation.' (Beijing Daily)
