Samsung Chip Employees Expected to Receive Average Bonus of $340,000

On May 21, Samsung Electronics reached a last-minute agreement with the union to avoid a strike, and the company is expected to distribute approximately 40 trillion won (about $26.6 billion) in bonuses to its chip employees this year. Samsung's semiconductor division has a total of 78,000 employees. Employees in different departments will receive varying amounts of bonuses, but based on estimated terms and projected operating profits for 2026, employees are expected to receive an average of 513 million won, roughly equivalent to $340,000. According to documents submitted in March, Samsung employees averaged 158 million won in 2025. Other estimates, including those from Yonhap News Agency, suggest that individual employees in the strong-performing memory chip sector could receive bonuses of around 600 million won. Samsung has not disclosed the specific number of employees in each semiconductor division. This move follows a similar approach taken by competitor SK Hynix last year, when the company agreed to distribute a bonus. The actual bonus amount for Samsung will largely depend on the company's profitability and chip demand. Samsung declined to comment.
