Telegram fulfilled 14 "IP address and/or phone number" requests from the United States between January 1 and September 30, 2024. The platform responded to a total of 900 queries from the US throughout the year, affecting 2,253 users. This indicates an increase in the number of requests after October, most of which were made after CEO Pavel Durov's arrest in France.
On August 24th of last year, French authorities arrested Durov, accusing Telegram of assisting in criminal activities. In October, he stated that the platform had been providing IP addresses and phone numbers of suspected criminals to authorities in different countries since 2018, as disclosed in Telegram's privacy policy.
French authorities have banned Durov from leaving the country, and the legal case is still ongoing.
