Caixin: Over 10,000 people have filed cross-border lawsuits in the Qian Zhimin case; registration for the UK's pursuit of 60,000 bitcoins closes on May 22.

according to Caixin, on February 16 and 17, the UK High Court held a two-day asset disposal hearing for a money laundering case involving 60,000 bitcoins. According to the information disclosed at the hearing, more than 11,300 Chinese victims intend to submit claims to the UK High Court. However, this accounts for only 8.8% of the 128,409 victims. More than ten thousand people are making cross-border claims, and the registration deadline for the recovery of 60,000 bitcoins in the UK is May 22.

Previously reported, the funds behind this largest bitcoin money laundering case in the UK originated from the illegal public deposit-taking case of Tianjin Lantian Gerui Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. The main culprit of the case, Qian Zhimin, fled to the UK with the bitcoins. He triggered an anti-money laundering review by purchasing a luxury house; Qian Zhimin was sentenced to 11 years and 8 months in the UK, and over 60,000 bitcoins were frozen by the UK.

According to Section 281 of the UK Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), if someone claims that assets frozen or proposed for confiscation by the government originally belong to them, they can submit a recovery application to the UK High Court. On October 22, 2024, the UK allowed victims of Lantian Gerui to actively recover assets by submitting evidence and registering with the UK High Court to prove that they are victims of the Lantian Gerui case and have a relationship with the involved assets.
