Micron Establishes $250 Million Paradigm Fund to Invest in AI Infrastructure
Storage chip giant Micron Technology has announced the launch of the Micron Ventures Paradigm Fund, with a size of $250 million, aimed at investing in startups that drive the development of the next generation of artificial intelligence. This is the largest third fund since the establishment of Micron Ventures, increasing its total capital commitments to $550 million. The fund will cover the entire AI technology stack, including AI model architecture, computing infrastructure, enterprise applications, and physical AI. Micron stated that as AI evolves from generative models to systems with reasoning, action capabilities, and interaction with the real world, the demand for high-performance computing, memory, and storage technologies is changing. The Paradigm Fund aims to establish deeper collaborations with companies driving these technological transformations and to proactively position itself for future AI infrastructure needs. The fund focuses on four key areas: 1. Model Architecture: Promoting innovations in AI model architecture and data infrastructure that will influence future computing, memory, and storage demands; 2. Compute: Including memory computing, next-generation networking technologies, and data center efficiency optimization; 3. Enterprise Applications: Utilizing AI to transform complex industries, including semiconductor design and manufacturing; 4. Physical AI: Covering robotics and new forms of devices, extending AI capabilities into the real world. Micron Ventures previously launched Fund I in 2019 and Fund II in 2022, and the new fund will further strengthen the company's investment layout in the AI ecosystem. Micron believes that the AI era is still in its early stages, and future technological advancements will reshape the way industries operate, with memory and storage becoming key infrastructures supporting the development of the next generation of AI. -

SK Hynix Increases Equipment Investment by Over 70% in First Half of Year to Boost AI Storage Capacity
On August 14, South Korean media reported that SK Hynix significantly increased its equipment and R&D investments in the first half of this year to meet the growing demand for AI storage. Cash expenditures for acquiring tangible assets exceeded 18 trillion won, marking an increase of over 70% compared to the same period last year. According to SK Hynix's semi-annual report disclosed on the 14th, the cash expenditure for acquiring tangible assets was 18.3288 trillion won in the first half of this year, up 72.7% from 10.6157 trillion won in the same period last year. R&D spending also saw a substantial increase, totaling 6.0428 trillion won in the first half of this year, a 98.4% rise from 3.0456 trillion won last year. Of this, 5.8163 trillion won was allocated for ongoing development costs. With the increasing demand for AI-specific high-bandwidth memory (HBM), server DRAM, and enterprise-grade solid-state drives (SSD), SK Hynix is accelerating the expansion of its production facilities. -
Michael Burry's Latest Portfolio Adjustment: Closing Tesla and Applied Materials Shorts, Increasing Nasdaq Bearish Bets
Michael Burry, the prototype of the 'Big Short,' has revealed his latest holdings. His long positions are primarily concentrated in Adobe, MercadoLibre, Zoetis, and JD.com, with individual positions accounting for about 8%; Lululemon and PayPal each represent about 7%; and Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Sprouts each account for about 5%. On the short side, Burry currently holds short positions in the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX), Micron Technology, Nebius, NVIDIA, Oracle, Palantir, and Caterpillar, while also holding put options on the Invesco QQQ Trust, which make up about 6% of his portfolio. In terms of adjustments, Burry has completely closed his short positions in Tesla and Applied Materials, stating that both trades were profitable; he has also sold all SOXX put options and established a larger position in QQQ put options. Additionally, he has reduced his short position in Caterpillar and increased his short position in Micron, raising his cash allocation to 12%.
