On April 16, U.S. Treasury Secretary Becerra expressed optimism that gas prices could drop to $3 per gallon during the critical summer driving season. "I am optimistic that between June 20 and September 20, we may see gas prices at $3 per gallon again," Becerra stated during a press conference at the White House on Wednesday. According to the American Automobile Association, the average gas price this week is $4.108 per gallon, a significant increase from less than $3 in the first two months of the year. Becerra noted that the price drop will depend on the progress of negotiations to end the war in the coming days. He mentioned that he met with several Middle Eastern officials during the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings this week, and they all indicated that once the strait is reopened, they could resume oil shipments within a week.
