On August 30, CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost stated that during Bitcoin's recent rise to $80,000, short-term holders (STH) saw their average unrealized profits approach 15%. This group currently has an estimated average holding cost of around $70,100, with profit levels reaching the highest since July 2025. Darkfost believes that when profits for short-term holders rise to this level, the stability of their positions typically decreases, leading some investors to potentially take profits. Therefore, it is not surprising that Bitcoin is temporarily stagnating around $80,000, as short-term profit-taking could become a pressure point that needs to be absorbed for prices to continue rising.
