Helium Network Migrates to Solana

Validated Individual Expert

The Helium project was founded in 2013 and now it’s main task is to create a large IoT network based on a LongFi connection. This is a communication protocol that allows data to be transmitted over long distances. Additionally, Helium has its own blockchain and HNT token.

This token can be mined using a very interesting method. The user does not need to have high-performance GPUs; it is enough to simply buy a special device from one of the companies that cooperate with Helium and install a hotspot at home or on the street. By providing coverage, the user will receive tokens, and for each device connected to the access point, the gains will increase.

Recently, Helium announced on their blog the migration of the Helium Network to the Solana blockchain. The migration is scheduled for March 27th. That means there is only a month left to wait. According to Helium, the transition to a new blockchain will provide the project with many benefits, including access to Solana Governance Primitives, higher transaction speeds, increased scalability, and much more.

After the migration, the Helium wallet will become a Solana wallet and will allow users to use the functions of both projects. The native Helium token, HNT, will be compatible with the Solana ecosystem. Regarding Helium Hotspots, the developers say that preparing them for the transition will not be difficult. To facilitate the preparation, the developers recommend that Hotspot owners read the documentation.

Over the next month, Helium developers will actively develop the FAQ, which can be read at this link. The developers strongly recommend accessing this site in order to better prepare for migration to Solana. But why did Helium decide to switch to Solana? The developers say it will usher in “a new era for the Helium Network.”

“The completion of the migration marks a new era for the Helium Network, enabling it to achieve greater scale and truly become a network of networks. <…> With the ability to power thousands of transactions per second, combined with its massive ecosystem of developers, applications, and integrations, Solana has the speed and scale necessary to take on the blockchain responsibility while the Helium core-developers and community can focus on building wireless protocols and enabling utility on these networks.”
