Cause of Death of Former Hack VC Partner Hsin-Ju Ruled as Suicide, Investigation Ongoing

On September 26, the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office in the U.S. confirmed that the death of former Hack VC partner and platform head Hsin-Ju was ruled a suicide. The California Highway Patrol stated that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is still ongoing. Hsin-Ju was found deceased on August 24 near an off-ramp of Interstate 15 in the Mojave Desert, at the age of 37, just one day after she claimed she would expose issues at Hack VC. Initially, investigators indicated that the cause of death was still under examination, and it was unclear whether it was due to high temperatures, a sudden illness, mechanical failure, or other reasons. On August 23, Hsin-Ju tweeted that she had rejected a settlement offer from Hack VC and planned to publicly disclose evidence related to her time at the company on August 26. She previously stated that she was pressured to continue working despite a medical emergency during her tenure and was threatened with being blacklisted in the industry if she resigned before completing her tasks. Following the incident, she accused the company of mishandling her health insurance after her departure and continuing to apply pressure during legal negotiations. She has since fired her lawyer and expressed a willingness to forgo settlement money in order to bring the matter to light. Hack VC later tweeted that they were aware of her post and expressed deep concern for Hsin-Ju's health, while also stating that there were significant differences in understanding the situation compared to the content she published, but they preferred not to discuss details out of respect for her privacy.

  • ECB Holds Rates Steady, December Rate Hike Expectations Rise

On October 29, the European Central Bank (ECB) kept its interest rates unchanged at 2.5%, in line with market expectations. Meanwhile, the news of President Lagarde's early departure has intensified market concerns over energy costs and the situation in France. In terms of interest rate policy, the ECB has chosen to adopt a wait-and-see approach. Since the impact of the Iran war on the energy market, the ECB has raised rates twice. Officials are worried that inflation could rise to twice the 2% target, but so far, there are no signs of rising oil and gas prices spreading to other sectors. At the same time, the previously unexpectedly resilient growth momentum of the European economy is weakening. The market widely expects that policymakers will raise rates again in December. At that time, the ECB will release its latest economic forecasts to assess the severity of inflation pressures. The situation in France has further tightened the financial environment, which is suppressing demand. Analysts expect that the year-end rate hike will be the last of this round of tightening by the ECB. However, investors are betting on two more rate hikes by 2027.
