Analysis: Markets are pricing in a recession

The analysis agency The Kobeissi Letter stated, "The current situation is as follows: technology stocks plummet, as if tariffs will exist for a long time; affected by demand concerns, oil prices have fallen to a four-month low; driven by uncertainty, gold prices have risen to a historic high; bond prices are rising, as if rate cuts are about to return; the cryptocurrency market is falling, with billions of dollars evaporating; interest rates are falling, as if the economy is slowing down. The market is pricing in an economic recession."

  • Genius Group Resumes Bitcoin Purchases, Acquiring 10 BTC for $854,000

On October 7, NewsBTC reported that AI education company Genius Group announced on October 6 the resumption of its Bitcoin purchases. Between October 2 and October 5, the company acquired 10 Bitcoins for approximately $854,000, with an average price of about $85,364 per coin. This purchase marks the restoration of its funding strategy, which had previously been interrupted due to legal restrictions. The company was under an initial injunction that prohibited it from issuing stock, raising funds, and purchasing Bitcoin. The U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals lifted this injunction on August 31, removing the restrictions and allowing the company to resume its funding plans. Management has identified Bitcoin as one of the pillars of its funding strategy alongside AI assets, with ambitious long-term goals; however, the report notes that these goals should not be confused with existing assets on the balance sheet. If Bitcoin appreciates, the reserves could enhance the asset side; if it depreciates, the company will face market value fluctuations that are largely unrelated to the day-to-day operations of its education business.

  • Opinion: BitMine Nears End of Continuous ETH Accumulation, May Lose a Stable Buyer

On October 7, CoinDesk analyst Krisztian Sandor reported that Tom Lee, chairman of the Ethereum treasury company BitMine, stated at the TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore that the company will stop buying ETH once its holdings reach 5% of the circulating supply. Currently, it is about 100,000 ETH away from this target. The company recently disclosed holdings of 6,016,414 ETH, which accounts for approximately 4.9% of the circulating supply, valued at about $15.5 billion based on Wednesday's prices. Last week, BitMine increased its ETH holdings by about $41 million, and if this pace continues, it is expected to reach the 5% target in six to seven weeks. The company also holds $643 million in cash and tradable securities, more than double the funds needed to complete the remaining purchases. Lee mentioned that the accumulation target, originally expected to take five years, is nearing completion in just over a year. Since launching this strategy in June 2025, BitMine has made weekly purchases, providing continuous demand in the market. According to DropsTab data, the company's ETH holdings are currently facing an unrealized loss of about $4.5 billion. ETH dropped approximately 5% in a 24-hour period on Wednesday, marking its lowest point since September 20.
  • GSR Commits $100 Million to Co-Develop On-Chain Lending Business Hare with Turtle

On October 7, cryptocurrency trading and market-making firm GSR pledged to invest $100 million in collaboration with liquidity distribution platform Turtle to develop the on-chain lending business Hare, which will be responsible for creating and managing on-chain vaults. This multi-year commitment will primarily be provided in the form of credit lines, with GSR initially investing its own funds into Hare's products as initial liquidity before external investors come in. Hare will first launch two products based on the lending protocol Aave: Hare USD Earn, which accepts major USD stablecoins through a single vault, and Hare Gold Earn, which allows holders of Paxos tokenized gold products PAXG and PAXGy to earn returns, with Paxos Labs participating in the gold product collaboration. Vault managers will be responsible for allocating assets deposited into smart contracts to lending markets and other strategies. Hare CEO Connor Milner stated that the funds committed by GSR will be deployed directly, allowing issuers to gain liquidity from day one, and investors will see GSR's own funds in the same vault as theirs. Hare will focus on assessing the performance of collateral, counterparties, and positions under market pressure.
