Uniswap Labs Offering Early Access to Its New Self-Custodial Mobile Wallet

Cointime Official

DeFi startup Uniswap Labs to launch a new self-custodial mobile wallet that will enable users to swap on L1 or L2 networks seamlessly without having to switch networks, according to an official announcement.

The new wallet will provide access to price charts and the ability to search for tokens across different networks such as Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism. The company collaborated with Trail of Bits to conduct a thorough security audit of the wallet, ensuring the highest level of protection. The wallet will encrypt seed phrases and private keys of both newly created and imported wallets and store them in Apple's secure enclave, which is not included in device backups. Uniswap Labs also disclosed that users will be able to manually store their seed phrases on paper or encrypt and store them on Apple iCloud.

However, the wallet is still in early access stage, the final build of Uniswap's mobile wallet was rejected by Apple.

"Apple approved our first build in October but rejected the final build just a few days before our December launch. Since then, we've responded to their concerns, answered every question, and reiterated that we are 100% compliant with their guidelines. " Uniswap Labs said in the announcement.

"Other self-custody swapping wallets have been approved, but Apple won't green-light our launch and we don't know why. We are stuck in limbo.  " Uniswap Labs added.

As a result, Uniswap Labs is opening up their internal TestFlight app to 10,000 users - max number of Testflight users Uniswap can have without Apple’s approval. The TestFlight app is functionally the same, safe to use, and can be updated to the App Store version after Apple approves it.

Uniswap will share access codes across multiple channels and timezones starting today. With the TestFlight app, users  will be able to:

  • Trade tokens directly with the most trusted DeFi protocol
  • Seamlessly switch between Mainnet, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism
  • Discover top tokens by market cap, price charts, and volume
  • Favorite tokens and wallet addresses to stay up to date on trends and activity
  • WalletConnect to any app on Mainnet or L2s
  • Back up your seed phrase on iCloud or manually
  • Get notified when transactions complete - on any device - with push notifications
  • And, it's completely open-sourced

  • US Considers Easing Sanctions on Shadow Fleet to Lower Shipping Rates

On October 15, a US official stated on Wednesday that the Trump administration is considering easing sanctions on vessels known as the 'shadow fleet.' These ships have previously transported oil and petroleum products from countries such as Russia, Iran, and Venezuela. This move aims to reduce the currently historically high global shipping rates. Shortly before this, President Trump had temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian diesel, a decision that drew strong criticism from Ukrainian President Zelensky, several European governments, and some Republican senators. The US official revealed that current discussions focus on whether the US will allow previously sanctioned vessels to transport 'legitimate oil.' Here, 'legitimate oil' refers to crude oil or petroleum products not subject to US sanctions, rather than oil from Russia and Iran that is under sanctions. The official stated that this move aims to facilitate the export of more refined products and crude oil from the Gulf region.
