Sarcophagus, the Arweave utilizing protocol has just unveiled its latest Litepaper.

In a world where data forms the cornerstone of our digital existence, securing and managing sensitive information has become a paramount concern. The concept of a digital dead man’s switch, which ensures the transmission of critical data when a user is unable to attest to their active status, has been revolutionized by the advent of Sarcophagus.

As the platform unveils its Litepaper v0.3, a realm of enhanced capabilities and refined features unfold, marking a significant stride towards a more secure and flexible data management ecosystem. This article delves into the realm of Sarcophagus, explicates the innovative integration of Arweave technology, and unveils the pivotal updates as elucidated in Litepaper v0.3 vs the previous Litepaper v0.2.

The Updates from Sarcophagus Litepaper v0.3

1. Multi-Node Architecture and Shamir’s Secret Sharing Scheme:

  • Sarcophagus now allows users to choose the number of nodes they wish to employ to manage the release of their secret to their designated recipient, should they fail to attest to the contract within a specified timeframe.
  • Users can also specify the number of nodes required to participate in the release of the payload.
  • This feature is based on Shamir’s Secret Sharing Scheme, providing more robust security and flexibility in managing dead man’s switches.

2. Additional Blockchain Networks Support:

  • Initially built on Ethereum, Sarcophagus has been architected to support other networks quickly post-launch.
  • This flexibility allows users to choose a network that matches their security needs, including Layer 2 Chains like Arbitrum and Optimism, and standalone Layer 1 chains like Avalanche.

3. Sarcophagus DAO & Governance:

  • A decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) has been introduced to manage the Sarcophagus network and its parameters.
  • The DAO owns all $SARCO tokens not in circulation and manages the funds required to employ the Sarcophagus team.
  • Token holders can participate in governance operations by placing their tokens in a specified governance contract.
  • The DAO leverages a modularized subDAO structure to enable focused teams to provide value and growth in targeted areas without requiring full DAO proposal approvals.

4. SARCO Token Utility:

  • The ERC-20 $SARCO token is used within the network for various purposes including paying for dead man’s switch services, bonding into contracts for nodes, and voting for operations within the DAO.

5. Governance Voting Incentive Distribution:

  • A new fee distribution model has been introduced to incentivize participation in governance, especially from smaller participants.
  • The Sarcophagus DAO takes a 1% fee from all sarcophagus creation and attestation actions, which is then distributed among active participants within the governance application based on a defined scheme.

6. Enhanced User Interface for Creating, Attesting, and Burying Sarcophagi:

  • The process of creating a sarcophagus, attesting to the contract, and burying the sarcophagus has been delineated with clear steps and requirements.
  • This includes specifying the file containing the secret, the public key of the recipient, resurrection time, number of nodes to be employed, and payment in ETH and $SARCO tokens.

7. Payload Release / Resurrection Process:

  • Detailed the process that occurs if a user fails to attest to the contract within the specified time, leading to the publishing of release keys by the nodes and the availability of the payload for download by the designated recipient.

These updates provide more flexibility, security, and governance within the Sarcophagus network, enhancing its utility as a decentralized digital dead man’s switch solution.

The articulated enhancements not only augur well for bolstering user-centric flexibility but also underscore a significant advancement in integrating decentralized governance into the fabric of digital trust management. As we transition into an era where data is both an asset and a liability, platforms like Sarcophagus, empowered by the immutable ledger of blockchain, especially the eternal storage of the Arweave blockchain, emerge as the vanguards of secure and autonomous data transmission, echoing a future where control and security are returned to the rightful hands of the individual.

What is Sarcophagus?

Sarcophagus is a groundbreaking web3 decentralized app (dApp) designed to serve as a blockchain-enabled, cryptographically secure, general-purpose digital dead man’s switch.

Unlike conventional systems, it operates autonomously, demonstrating a high level of resistance to censorship and immutability. Through leveraging modern smart contracting networks like Ethereum alongside Arweave's permanent file storage network, Sarcophagus ensures that the files placed within its confines are only unlocked and made available to a designated recipient upon the failure of the user to attest to the smart contract within a stipulated time frame. The platform epitomizes the evolution of the dead man’s switch from its historical application in heavy machinery to a digital tool indispensable in the secure management and transmission of critical data.

The Synergy of Sarcophagus and Arweave:

Central to the functionality of Sarcophagus is its integration with Arweave—a blockchain network that facilitates the permanent storage of files. Arweave's endowment-based payment architecture allows for data to be stored indefinitely in its original form at many decentralized locations on the entire network. This permanence and immutability are crucial for the operational integrity of a dead man’s switch. By combining the computational trust provided by Ethereum and other trusted blockchains and the data permanence offered by Arweave, Sarcophagus transcends traditional barriers, creating a robust framework where digital secrets are securely encapsulated until the predefined conditions for their release are met.

  • US Considers Easing Sanctions on Shadow Fleet to Lower Shipping Rates

On October 15, a US official stated on Wednesday that the Trump administration is considering easing sanctions on vessels known as the 'shadow fleet.' These ships have previously transported oil and petroleum products from countries such as Russia, Iran, and Venezuela. This move aims to reduce the currently historically high global shipping rates. Shortly before this, President Trump had temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian diesel, a decision that drew strong criticism from Ukrainian President Zelensky, several European governments, and some Republican senators. The US official revealed that current discussions focus on whether the US will allow previously sanctioned vessels to transport 'legitimate oil.' Here, 'legitimate oil' refers to crude oil or petroleum products not subject to US sanctions, rather than oil from Russia and Iran that is under sanctions. The official stated that this move aims to facilitate the export of more refined products and crude oil from the Gulf region.
