Community Labs, an Arweave-focused software development company and incubator, has said it would be developing consumer-focused products built using permanent data storage, a decision it came up with following an observation that the Arweave ecosystem lacks it.
The company intends to build or support initiatives in the area of stable coin, fractionalised property ownership and decentralised source control.
In a post on Friday by Community Labs Founder, Tate Berenbaum the company realised this need after it released a snapshot of the Arweave ecosystem. The snapshot shows all the known applications and protocols in the ecosystem according to the categories. It noted that there were about 140 projects in the ecosystem.
Berenbaum, summarising the trajectory of the development of Arweave noted that the assumption that protocols are most permissionless for innovation is becoming a reality and that for innovations such as the permaweb gateways and bundles enabling scalability, new tools are required to explore them.
Some observers and builders in the Arweave ecosystem, in the past, were of the opinion that what was needed (at that time) was infrastructure to lay the foundation for applications to be built.
Community Labs now believes that it’s time to begin building for the future.
“We now have the tooling and the infrastructure; the ecosystem is finally ready for its next big wave of end users, and we’re aiming to bring them,” Berenbaum stated.
On X (formerly Twitter), Berenbaum explained that the company will be building for consumers because it has solved the immediate tooling and infrastructure needs and it has some experience with building.
The three initiatives are Lotus which will be the first stablecoin to be on Arweave. It will serve as a store of value to hold liquidity for the web of value; Oases is a tokenized and fractionalized property ownership targeted at the real estate market by making property ownership affordable through fractional ownership; Protocol Land, an incentivized and decentralised source control to solve the problem of Web3 codebase on Web2 platforms with added feature like contribution incentives.
Berenbaum said the three products and products are the focus because they solve critical problems for people outside of Arweave; they compose on top of existing tooling and infrastructure; they leverage Arweave in ways no other Web3 technology can.
Community Labs has been at the fore of building products and incubating projects through its fellowship programme for founders. It has contributed to building Arweave Wallet Kit which puts all the wallets in the ecosystem in a platform, making it easy for builders to integrate wallets in projects they are.
