Shapella Upgrade Scheduled for Launch on Ethereum Mainnet in April 12, 2023

Cointime Official

Tim Beiko, a core Ethereum developer, has confirmed that Shapella is scheduled for launch on the Ethereum mainnet.

The launch is scheduled for epoch 194048, set to occur at 22:27:35 UTC on April 12, 2023.

As per the announcement, the Shapella upgrade combines changes to the execution layer (Shanghai), consensus layer (Capella) and the Engine API. It is a much-anticipated upgrade to the Ethereum network, which aims to improve overall efficiency by reducing gas costs and increasing transaction speed.

The withdrawals will be enabled by Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-4895 by “pushing” staked Ether from the Beacon Chain to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), otherwise known as the execution layer.
