Rollkit: The First Rollup Framework to Support Sovereign Rollups on Bitcoin

Cointime Official

The development team of Rollkit, a modular framework for rollups, recently declared that Bitcoin can now serve as a medium for sovereign rollups to store and retrieve data.

As per the statement, Bitcoin can now be used as a sovereign rollup to execute the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Rollkit is providing an opportunity for developers to develop rollups with arbitrary execution environments that inherit Bitcoin's data accessibility guarantees and resistance to reorganizations.

Rollkit is a modular framework for rollups that provides interfaces for plugging in different components, like data availability layers.

The latest inclusion is an initial research implementation of a module that permits a Rollkit rollup to leverage Bitcoin for data accessibility.
