Fair Protocol has launched an early version of its marketplace where creators of open source artificial intelligence models and buyers can trade.

The feature which took months to make according to the project is important for the community of both users and creators of open source artificial technology. Although it is still in early stages, Fair Protocol said the marketplace has been made simple through intuitive explanations to aid onboarding and that users can try available models immediately.

The user interface of the marketplace shows the cost of assets in dollars, removing the burden of having to convert from crypto to fiat. Prompts can also have personalised tags and AI creators can upload open source AI models as atomic assets, a feature which Fair Protocol says will make it possible to sell or transfer assets.

Shortly after its release, an AI model creator, Lykon, known for the DreamShaper V8 and DreamShaper XL models, joined the marketplace.

“With this update, @fairAIprotocol has taken another step forward in the progress of open-source AI, contributing to a more decentralised and transparent AI. And it's only the beginning,” Márcio Guia, co-founder and COO of Fair Protocol.

Built by a team of three including Márco Guia, Tiago Ferreira and Isilvestre, Fair Protocol is a decentralised marketplace built on Arweave which enables the monetisation of all aspects of AI model inferences. Inference refers to the use of trained AI models to make predictions or decisions based on new data. The core of the protocol’s contribution is bringing transparency to artificial intelligence in terms of models which big tech companies have monopolized. In early September of this year, Fair protocol announced integration with BazAR which allows users to monetize their models through the Universal Data Licence.

Ferreira who is the co-founder and CEO of the Protocol had said in an X space last week that although users can upload models on the platform and get royalties from the usage of the model by anyone but transferring the royalties to another person was not possible, noting that upgrade to the platform in the future will allow royalties to be transferable. He also said that the team was working on enabling models to be tradable on BazAR. At the moment, AI contents generated on Fair Protocol can be traded on BazAR.
