ConsenSys to Open EVM-Equivalent zkEVM Rollup to Public Testnet on March 28th

Cointime Official

Blockchain development firm ConsenSys announced it will open its EVM-equivalent zkEVM rollup to public testnet on March 28th, 2023.

The zkEVM rollup's notable attribute is its compatibility with Ethereum Virtual Machine, facilitating a smooth transition of current dApps to the Layer 2 network. Developers can integrate apps from Ethereum onto the zkEVM network without major modifications, as per the company's statement.

"Our zkEVM is the culmination of years of research by ConsenSys R&D and offers unrivaled scalability and performance." ConsenSys said in the announcement, "We’ve had positive feedback and encouraging results during our private beta which has already processed over 490,000 transactions and onboarded dozens of dapps. "

“We are excited to support the new ConsenSys zkEVM to allow users to bridge between Ethereum and their new chain using the familiar Hop interface. The ConsenSys zkEVM team engaged with the Hop community to make the integration happen in a quick and professional way. The ease of integration, tooling, compatibility, and responsiveness from the ConsenSys team allowed this integration to work seamlessly with the existing Hop development stack.” commented Shane Fontaine, Co-Founder and COO of  Hop Protocol.

Users interested in exploring current apps or submitting your own project to ConsenSys zkEVM rollup can go to the Explore tab here.

  • US Considers Easing Sanctions on Shadow Fleet to Lower Shipping Rates

On October 15, a US official stated on Wednesday that the Trump administration is considering easing sanctions on vessels known as the 'shadow fleet.' These ships have previously transported oil and petroleum products from countries such as Russia, Iran, and Venezuela. This move aims to reduce the currently historically high global shipping rates. Shortly before this, President Trump had temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian diesel, a decision that drew strong criticism from Ukrainian President Zelensky, several European governments, and some Republican senators. The US official revealed that current discussions focus on whether the US will allow previously sanctioned vessels to transport 'legitimate oil.' Here, 'legitimate oil' refers to crude oil or petroleum products not subject to US sanctions, rather than oil from Russia and Iran that is under sanctions. The official stated that this move aims to facilitate the export of more refined products and crude oil from the Gulf region.
