All in AI Era, GPU Computing will Lead to New Business Revolution

Validated Project

As large-scale AI models sweep across the globe, domestic and foreign giants have found the key to success by laying out AI. Both Microsoft, Google, Meta, etc. overseas, and Baidu, Alibaba, Huawei, Tencent, 360, etc. in domestic, all of which have announced R&D or released large-scale AI products.

The arrival of the AI Era has already shown its potential, while in the face of the AGI’s aggressiveness, its hidden crisis has also emerged.

“The purpose of AI is to replace humans, which is an obvious fact.” Marvin Kong, Chief Scientist of iPollo, specializing in high-performance computing and distributed computing technology, said that ignoring other issues involving social governance, the crisis of replacing human work is the top priority in the AI Era.

Web3 Promotes the Operation of Metaverse Economic System

Recently, Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI, who launched ChatGPT, created a Web3 project called Worldcoin, which aims to help people deal with the challenges brought by AI by solving “digital identity” and achieving “universal basic income.” This project is to achieve Altman’s vision of allowing humans in the AI Era to “share” the enormous profits brought by AI.

As for whether this Web3 project can respond to the challenges of AI, Marvin said that it is difficult to evaluate currently, but it can be confirmed that a key point of the Web3 project is to distinguish between human and non-human.

In the metaverse and intelligent agent environment, how humans confirm their identity is an important issue. A globally unified identity authentication is not only an important infrastructure but also helps to realize the concepts of social governance and internationalization. It simplifies the process and directly issues universal basic income (UBI), solving the problem of fund distribution. Such infrastructure provides the possibility of constructing an inclusive and fair society, promoting the solution of complex problems in the real world.

“In my opinion, Web3 is mainly used to handle a large number of digital assets in the metaverse, especially for transactions and accounting, making it very useful in the metaverse. Through smart contracts, it can schedule and manage digital assets, which is very important for the operation of metaverse economic system.” This is Marvin’s understanding of the definition of Web3.

In the metaverse economic system, humans can engage in various economic activities, including the production and trading of virtual goods, the use and circulation of virtual currencies, and the provision and consumption of virtual services. All of these economic activities need to ensure the security and reliability of transactions through smart contracts and blockchain technology.

In addition, computing plays an important role in the metaverse economic system, supporting the rendering and display of complex scenes in the metaverse, making the virtual environment more realistic and immersive, which is one of the underlying technologies for constructing the metaverse.

Distributed GPU Cloud Computing Will Bring New Business Revolution

With the continuous development of the concept of metaverse, the public has a preliminary understanding of the metaverse. According to Marvin, there are three clear elements of metaverse currently: 3D content, display devices, and Avatars.

“Among these elements, one of the most important technologies is computing, namely GPU computing, used for rendering or visual processing of 3D content.”

To facilitate the understanding of GPU computing, Marvin gives an example. Apple calls it spatial computing, while NVIDIA calls it rendering. The main computing network here is the direction of the development of future cloud computing, and cloud computing itself has been verified as infrastructure in the Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 Eras. In the metaverse or Web3.0 Era, there will definitely be new cloud computing models. Among them, there is a GPU-based cloud computing model like iPollo.

iPollo is a GPU-intensive elastic computing network that supports Web3 large-scale applications, owned by Nano Labs (Nasdaq:NA), committed to providing basic 3D rendering computing power services for the Web3 industry, promoting the application of AIGC tool layers, providing technical services for the digitalization and diversification of IPs in various industries, and presenting digitalized IPs and scenes through 3D printing technology in the real world.

Currently, one of the main characteristics of GPU computing services provided by mainstream cloud computing suppliers is centralized GPU cloud computing, especially emphasizing application scenes such as cloud gaming. They use GPU as the virtual machine and transmit it to mobile phones and computers through video streaming.

iPollo, on the other hand, uses a distributed approach to aggregate GPU computing to provide decentralized services. It can be understood as distributing a centralized task to distributed GPU graphics cards, whose core advantage is cost reduction because it mainly uses idle time to provide services.

There are indications that distributed or decentralized GPU cloud computing is in line with the infrastructure needed to support 3D digital assets in the future. The technical characteristics of iPollo make it become the infrastructure for AIGC to create metaverse space, 3DGames, and 3D Utility FT applications to achieve explosive growth.

“If it’s said that cloud computing has driven the substantial development of infrastructure in the Web 2.0 Era, then new infrastructure will appear in the future metaverse or Web3.0, which is also the positioning of iPollo.” Marvin said.

GPU Computing Helps to Explore Application Scenario Details of Avatars in Depth

iPollo is compatible with EVM and integrates and optimizes data transmission with 6G communication technology, enabling iPollo to fully support the massive computing power requirements of next-generation Web3 applications such as metaverse real-time rendering, AIGC, AR/VR, etc.

The technical advantages of iPollo have made it ahead of the times, but huge challenges followed.

Marvin indicated, “Traditional cloud computing is based on CPU, while the computing model based on GPU is relatively new. There is not much experience and objects that can be learned from, and everything needs innovation.” Besides, iPollo also uses blockchain to converge cloud computing and GPU business, which also brings new challenges. All of these require iPollo to continue to research and develop to solve problems.

In addition, Marvin believes that another challenge comes from metaverse, for the current definition of metaverse scenes is not clear enough. Until recently, AIGC brought about the scheduling of metaverse content and scenes, and the direction of cutting-edge technology and applications has become basically clear. Therefore, the development and release of iPollo and cooperation with other projects in the ecosystem have also become clearer.

Thanks to this, iPollo will focus future development on digital humans, namely the Avatar field.

“Avatars can provide services for one-on-one chat, and also 10,000 or 20,000 people at concerts. Besides, they can promote goods through fashion shows, just like virtual anchors do now.” In Marvin’s view, the application scenes of Avatars are diverse, and the commercial prospects are promising.

Each application scene of Avatars requires different AI models and algorithms, such as “voice to face,” generating facial expressions based on speech, and needs rendering clothes, flowing hair, and so on. Rendering requires a large amount of GPU computing. Different algorithms require different types of GPUs and have different real-time requirements. For example, when a high-definition face wearing high-definition clothes is moving, it requires at least one GPU above 3090 to support it.

“We used to discuss metaverse extensively, but now we are focusing all our energy on the Avatar field. Before, our understanding of Avatars may not have been deep enough or lacked specific scene-based descriptions. Now we have a clearer understanding of Avatars and better business models, such as AI applications for e-commerce voice chat and games.”

Marvin stated that iPollo team will delve deeper into the details of different application scenes in the digital industry, such as collaborating with companies specializing in motion capture to provide them with lower-cost computing solutions, such as physical simulation of hair, fur, and leaves. At the same time, he also called on the industry and emphasized the importance of conducting in-depth research when developing applications such as Avatars and metaverse.
