Vitalik: Ethereum's mission is to connect Eastern and Western communities, and plans to achieve 10 times expansion next year

On September 13th, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin took the stage at EthTokyo 2025 and delivered a speech, stating that he firmly believes that Layer 2 solutions are the future development direction of Ethereum. He further proposed an ambitious goal: Ethereum plans to achieve a 10x capacity increase next year, while maintaining decentralization and security, by improving network throughput and accessibility.

Vitalik particularly emphasized the role of Asia. China developed an early PyEthereum client, volunteers translated the whitepaper and documentation into multiple languages, and community efforts have propelled Ethereum globally. He compared the development styles of Chinese and Japanese developers: Chinese projects progress rapidly and on a large scale, while Japanese developers are more adept at trying new technologies. Looking ahead, Vitalik called for more researchers and application developers to join, rather than relying solely on the core team. He encouraged Asian developers to focus on efficiency and security, and believes that AI will become an important learning tool.

New technologies often "reset" ecosystems, such as the breakthrough brought by zero-knowledge proofs. Vitalik predicted that the 2030s will usher in a new technological paradigm. Vitalik reiterated that Ethereum's mission is to connect Eastern and Western communities. In terms of funding models, he believes that the global advantage of ICOs outweighs traditional VCs, and proposed that the future should combine ICOs with DAO governance to create a more open and transparent financial mechanism.
