late early Bitcoin contributor Hal Finney's widow posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account that 17 years ago today Hal Finney (@Halfin) posted the first tweet mentioning Bitcoin, "Running bitcoin," while also announcing the launch of the fifth "Running Bitcoin Challenge" event.

Hal Finney was the recipient of the first Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto and played a key role in improving and running early versions of Bitcoin. He passed away due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
