Tencent has requested GitHub to remove certain open-source projects related to exporting WeChat chat history, citing concerns about potential hacking and privacy risks.

recently there were news that Tencent has officially sent a complaint letter to GitHub (the world's largest code hosting and collaboration platform), requesting the removal of a batch of open-source projects that "allow users to export or analyze their own WeChat chat records." Among them, some project leaders of the more prominent projects publicly stated that under legal pressure, the projects were forced to stop maintenance. Tencent responded that some open-source projects that read WeChat chat records do so by reverse engineering the WeChat client and other methods to crack the local database keys, bypassing the encryption measures of the WeChat client, threatening the data privacy and client security of the users themselves and third parties, and are easily exploited by black and gray industries.
