On October 7, data compiled by South Korea's financial regulatory agency revealed that since the launch of single stock leveraged exchange-traded products in May this year, investors are estimated to have lost 2.3 trillion won (approximately 1.7 billion USD) between May 27 and August 14. This marks the first time regulators have disclosed the overall loss scale of such highly leveraged single stock products. It should be noted that this data only pertains to ten leading brokerage firms in South Korea and does not represent the total losses of all South Korean investors. Since July, regulatory authorities have gradually implemented restrictions, including a temporary ban on new product listings, raising minimum cash margin requirements, and mandating specialized training before trading. The shift in South Korean regulatory policy from encouraging launches in May to imposing restrictions by July occurred in less than two months.
