On April 13, it was reported that SoftBank has established a new company to develop domestically produced AI in Japan. Eight companies, including NEC and Honda, will take stakes in the venture, and the Japanese government is also considering providing support. Through a collaboration between government and enterprises, the aim is to develop foundational models to address 'physical AI.' In addition to NEC and Honda, Sony Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Mizuho Bank, Nippon Steel, and Kobe Steel have also invested in the newly established Japanese AI foundational model development company located in Shibuya, Tokyo. Preferred Networks, which is engaged in AI development based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, will also collaborate on model construction.
