On October 12, according to CCTV International News, Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated today, as reported by RIA Novosti, that "if Ukraine really wants to hold elections, (Russian President) Putin is willing to order no strikes against Ukraine on the day of the elections." Peskov rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's proposal for a "60-day complete ceasefire to organize (Ukrainian) presidential elections," emphasizing that Russia seeks a comprehensive peace agreement rather than a temporary ceasefire. On October 11, during ABC's "This Week" program, Zelensky responded to U.S. President Trump's remark that "Ukraine should change its president" by saying: "Please tell Putin to give us two months, a 60-day complete ceasefire, and we will organize elections. Ukrainian law prohibits holding elections during wartime." Russia believes that Ukraine's failure to hold elections renders Zelensky an "illegitimate leader."
