Musk Becomes Largest Donor in U.S. Midterm Election History with $276 Million Contribution

According to the New York Times on October 13, Elon Musk has quietly invested over $276 million into Republican groups and their super PACs since early July, launching a massive mobilization effort to help the Republican Party address unfavorable conditions ahead of the midterm elections. This substantial funding makes Musk the largest donor in the history of U.S. midterm elections. To help secure the Republican majority in the Senate, Musk donated $158 million to the 'Senate Leadership Fund' this summer, marking one of the largest political donations in U.S. history. He also established a significant Republican voter mobilization effort through his super PAC 'American Political Action Committee,' founded in 2024. This summer, he donated over $76 million to this organization to create a large-scale get-out-the-vote campaign aimed at mobilizing hard-to-reach Republican voters. In the 2025-26 election cycle, Musk has donated approximately $366 million to the Federal Election Commission, far exceeding his investment of about $290 million in the 2024 elections. According to insiders, he has also provided additional undisclosed donations in both election cycles.
