On September 29, Shayon Sengupta, a partner at the crypto investment firm Multicoin Capital, announced that Multicoin has invested in the decentralized bandwidth network Grass through its hedge fund and venture capital fund, referring to it as a reading layer for machine intelligence. Over the past 18 months, Grass has recruited contributors to share unused bandwidth through crypto incentives, which is used for querying and parsing the public internet, connecting data to cutting-edge laboratory data pipelines. The article cites Grass's own report stating that over 6 million contributors have received rewards in USD, funded by the revenue generated directly from their contributions. Grass reported revenues of $17 million for 2025 and an additional $17 million in the first half of 2026, with nearly all AI clients making repeat purchases. Grass claims to be profitable and projects that its revenue from training data alone will reach $75 million in 2026, with these figures derived from a call held on July 7 with token holders and network participants. Sengupta noted that Grass plans to launch a Contents API to allow models to open and render public pages via residential networks, as well as plans to introduce a Search API and web indexing. Grass has collected over 1 billion public web videos, some of which are used in collaboration with Multicoin portfolio company Inference.net for training video annotation models.
