On October 12, the Chaoyang Branch of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau announced that it has recently filed a case against companies related to Chinese fintech firm CreditEase for suspected illegal activities. Several suspects, including the actual controllers Tang (male, 53 years old) and Zhao (female, 51 years old), have been subjected to criminal coercive measures. The police remind investors to actively cooperate with the investigation and to be wary of criminals using terms like 'early redemption' to commit fraud. CreditEase, founded by Tang Ning, is a Chinese fintech company that initially operated P2P products, with its subsidiary Yirendai having been listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Since May 22 of this year, CreditEase has completely halted the redemption of its fixed-income-like products, initiating what it calls a 'healthy exit,' involving approximately 30 billion yuan and affecting nearly 100,000 high-net-worth clients. After more than four months of suspension, CreditEase recently sent an apology letter to clients, acknowledging that the group may be insolvent with a significant debt gap. CreditEase has a broad layout in wealth management and investment, with public information indicating that its funds have directly participated in financing crypto-related projects such as Circle, Figure, Poko, and Cashmere Wallet, and have contributed as LPs to several traditional VC funds. CreditEase also has a physical presence in Singapore through CreditEase Asset Management (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., which holds a MAS license and primarily engages in asset management.
