BitMEX co-founder Samuel Reed pleads guilty to violating bank secrecy laws and agrees to pay $10 million fine

On November 7th, it was reported that Samuel Reed, co-founder of the cryptocurrency trading platform BitMEX, admitted to violating the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) by failing to establish, implement, and maintain anti-money laundering (AML) programs on BitMEX. He agreed to pay a criminal fine of $10 million under a plea agreement, which represents the economic benefit derived from the crime. BitMEX's other two founders, Arthur Hayes and Benjamin Delo, have also pleaded guilty to the same charge in February 2022.
