Solidity Updated to Version 0.8.20: PUSH0 Opcode Change to Reduce Gas Fees Over Time for Ethereum Smart Contracts

The Solidity programming language, which is used to write smart contracts for Ethereum's decentralized applications (DApps), has been upgraded to version 0.8.20. This update includes several code enhancements that could help reduce gas fees for users relying on smart contracts for their decentralized finance (DeFi) or non-fungible token (NFT) operations. The PUSH0 operation code in Solidity 0.8.20 allows developers to push a zero value onto the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) stack for only two gwei, which is a significant improvement over previous versions of Solidity. This update could reduce the cost of contracts that frequently push zero values to the EVM stack, making smart contracts even more cost-efficient. Additionally, this update provides a security advantage by making smart contracts less susceptible to "gas exhaustion attacks."
