U.S. Treasury Secretary Benson once again urged Federal Reserve Chairman Powell to conduct an internal review of the Fed and include the mortgage fraud allegations against Fed Governor Cook in the scope of the review. Benson said in an interview with Fox Business Channel: "I encourage Chairman Powell to conduct an internal review before conducting an external review." "This is something that needs to be addressed," he referred to the Cook incident. Benson said, "We have not heard her say 'I didn't do it', she just keeps saying, the president cannot dismiss her." He said his view is that "if a Fed official commits mortgage fraud, they should not serve in one of the major financial regulatory agencies in the United States." "The Fed is an irresponsible institution, its relationship with the American people depends on high trust, and events like this undermine that trust."
