On June 2, according to ABC News, U.S. President Trump believes that he will reach an agreement with Iran to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz "within the next week." "Progress is going well, it looks pretty good," Trump said, adding, "There was a little incident today, but I quickly turned it around." Trump revealed that the incident stemmed from Iran's dissatisfaction with an Israeli attack on Lebanon. He stated, "So, I spoke with Hezbollah and told them not to fire; then I contacted Netanyahu and told him the same thing. As a result, both sides stopped shooting." Trump indicated that reaching a peace agreement with Iran could be "even better than achieving a military victory." Regarding when the memorandum for reopening the strait could be finalized and approved, Trump stated, "I think it will probably happen within the next week." He revealed that he has not yet officially signed the agreement because "there are still a few key details that need to be worked out."
