Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong launched a consultation today aimed at restricting unregulated entities from improperly using names that may mislead the public into thinking they are regulated entities. In this regard, to keep up with recent developments, the Securities and Futures Commission has proposed expanding the existing restricted title list under the Securities and Futures Ordinance. Additionally, the proposal suggests extending the restrictions to commonly used terms that imply a similar meaning to "exchange," as well as words referring to certain financial products and platforms regulated by the Securities and Futures Ordinance. The proposal will also cover titles that may suggest an association with existing exchanges, virtual asset trading platforms, and other similar institutions.
