Zimbabwe launches blockchain registry for carbon credit trading

the Zimbabwean government has officially launched a carbon credit registration system based on blockchain technology, aimed at enhancing transaction transparency and rebuilding investor confidence. The country's Minister of Environment, Evelyn Ndlovu, stated at the launch ceremony in Harare that the system was developed by Dubai's A6 Labs, and can trace the entire process of carbon credit issuance, trading, and cancellation to ensure data integrity. Previously, the country abruptly cancelled multiple carbon credit projects in 2023 and imposed a 50% levy on profits, leading to operational disruptions for international developers, including the Kariba Redd+ project.
