On April 9, Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, announced that The Open Network (TON) has completed a significant upgrade, increasing block generation speed by six times and overall performance by approximately ten times. The transaction confirmation time has been reduced to sub-second levels, achieving a 'near-instant' transaction experience. The TON team stated that this upgrade is based on Catchain 2.0, which previously limited confirmation times to about 10 seconds, hindering instant payments and application responsiveness. This upgrade will make it possible to 'complete payments as easily as sending messages.' Additionally, TON noted that the higher block frequency will enhance validator rewards and strengthen staking incentives. Pavel Durov described this upgrade as the first step in the 'Make TON Great Again' seven-step plan, with the next phase aiming to reduce transaction fees by another six times.
