Trump announces series of appointments for key government positions

President-elect Donald Trump has made a series of appointments, including Peter Navarro as senior counselor for trade and manufacturing, Paul Atkins as commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and former Rep. Billy Long as the Internal Revenue Service's commissioner. Trump has chosen people for most Senate-confirmed Cabinet-level jobs, as well as key roles that don't require confirmation. However, he is reportedly considering replacing Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth amid allegations of public drunkenness and sexual misconduct.

Former President Trump has announced his picks for several key government positions on his new social media platform, Truth Social. Among the appointments are Paul Atkins for the top financial regulator post, Peter Navarro as top trade advisor, and Jared Isaacman as NASA administrator. However, Trump's initial choice for Drug Enforcement Agency Administrator, Chad Chronister, withdrew from consideration after facing criticism for past decisions. Trump also announced his pick for FBI director, Kash Patel, who has remained loyal to Trump and called for an overhaul of the agency.

President Trump has made a number of appointments to key positions in his administration, including Stephen Miller as White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and homeland security adviser, Tom Homan as Border Czar, and Sebastian Gorka as Senior Director for Counterterrorism. He has also nominated several individuals for cabinet positions, including Doug Burgum as Secretary of the Interior and Chairman of the new National Energy Council, and Chris Wright as Secretary of Energy. Additionally, Trump has nominated former Rep. Sean Duffy as Secretary of Transportation and former Rep. Doug Collins as Secretary for Veterans Affairs.

The Trump campaign spent over $22,000 at his D.C. hotel between 2017 and 2020, with $17,000 spent in a single day in July 2019. Former Rep. Doug Collins has been chosen by Trump as his secretary for veterans affairs, promising to streamline and cut regulations in the VA and ensure veterans receive their benefits. Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe will serve as CIA director, having previously acted as Trump's primary intelligence adviser during his last presidency. Trump has nominated Elise Stefanik for the United Nations ambassador role, known as a staunch Trump ally. Steven Witkoff, a GOP donor and real estate investor, has been tapped for special envoy to the Middle East.

President Trump has appointed several attorneys to key positions in the Justice Department, including Blanche, Bove, and Sauer. Blanche and Bove both represented Trump in the hush money trial, while Sauer helped win Trump's presidential immunity case. Additionally, former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton was chosen as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Trump is also shaping his second-term agenda with the help of right-wing groups, allies, and backers, including Elon Musk and Howard Lutnick.
